How to make spinach with meat

Spinach with Meat (Middle Eastern Style) 🌿🍖

This spinach and meat stew is a rich and hearty dish, often served with rice or bread. The combination of tender meat, flavorful spices, and fresh spinach makes it a nutritious and comforting meal.


Ingredients:

For the Meat:

  • 500g beef or lamb, cut into small cubes
  • 1 onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp olive oil or butter
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp ground coriander
  • ½ tsp cinnamon (optional)
  • 3 cups water or broth

For the Spinach Stew:

  • 500g fresh spinach, washed and chopped (or 2 cups frozen spinach)
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 small tomato, finely chopped
  • 1 tsp ground cumin
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • Juice of ½ a lemon
  • ½ cup cooked chickpeas (optional, for extra texture)

Instructions:

1. Cook the Meat:

  • Heat olive oil in a pot and sauté the onions until soft.
  • Add the garlic and stir for 1 minute.
  • Add the meat, season with salt, pepper, coriander, and cinnamon, and cook until browned.
  • Pour in water or broth, cover, and let simmer for 45-60 minutes until tender.

2. Prepare the Spinach:

  • Add tomato paste, chopped tomato, cumin, and paprika to the pot. Stir well.
  • Add the chopped spinach and stir until wilted.
  • Let it simmer for 10-15 minutes until flavors blend.

3. Final Touch:

  • Stir in lemon juice and mix well.
  • Add chickpeas if using.

4. Serve & Enjoy:

  • Serve hot with white rice or flatbread.
  • Garnish with fresh cilantro or toasted pine nuts for extra flavor.
