  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon chili powder (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil

For the Garlic Vinegar Sauce (Dakka):

  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tablespoons white vinegar
  • ½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • ½ teaspoon red chili flakes (optional)
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup water

Step-by-Step Instructions

1. Prepare the Crispy Onions:

  1. Toss the sliced onions with flour and salt until coated.
  2. Heat oil in a pan over medium heat and fry the onions until golden brown and crispy.
  3. Remove and place on a paper towel to drain excess oil. Set aside.

2. Cook the Lentils:

  1. In a pot, add lentils and cover with 3 cups of water.
  2. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer for 15-20 minutes until tender but not mushy.
